Pine Siskin

I spotted my first ever Pine Siskin today on my backyard bird feeder.  I saw the beautiful streaks on its breast and knew it wasn't a bird I had seen before.  It allowed me to get quite close as it continued to attack the sunflower seeds, so I had a nice chance to look at it.  See the touch of yellow in its wings?

This bird, a member of the finch family, usually spends its winters in Canada and the northern United States, but because of the bad cone crop this year, they have been seen further south than usual, looking for food.

I'm glad this one stopped at my yard.  Life bird!
