Monarchs are gearing up for their trip south, feeding on any nectar source available and trying to put on weight for their journey and hibernation in Mexico. Yes, they do put on weight. Hard to believe that such a small creature can fly thousands of miles and gain weight while it's doing it.
There were five monarchs in the yard today. I loved trying to catch their brilliant orange against the brilliant blue of today's September sky.
Watch for monarchs in trees. They may spend the night in a tree in your yard, resting up for further travel the next day.
