I had to force myself out of the recliner to get out for a 2nd walk today, but I did manage it! I went over to Great Meadows NWR for a late afternoon loop around the lower impoundment. The water is finally thawing, and it was wonderful to see more waterfowl at the refuge.
The star of the day had to be the Red-Winged Blackbirds. They were calling from every direction, and their red stripe was showing this week. Spring is definitely near!

Canada Geese
Common Goldeneyes
Bufflehead
Hooded Mergansers
Song Sparrow
The muskrats were out in full force, too. I think I saw at least five of them.
Wood Ducks
Mallards
