2014 Buttonwood Farm Sunflower Festival

Today I attended the opening day of the 2014 Sunflower Festival at Buttonwood Farm in Griswold, Connecticut.  There is an acre of sunflowers open to the public (14 acres of sunflowers in all), with walking trails and hay rides through the flower field.  There is a hot dog stand for food and an ice cream stand offering delicious homemade ice cream.  I can personally recommend the black raspberry and coffee oreo flavors!  Fresh cut sunflowers are for sale for $5.00/bunch.  Hay rides and/or cow train rides cost $5.00/person.  During the hay ride, they actually stop and let you feed the hay to the cattle!

All proceeds benefit Make a Wish Foundation.  The sunflowers were first planted in 2003, and the numbers of people who showed up by word of mouth to photograph them came as a big surprise.

Hope you enjoy my sunflower photos!  No wings today!

This one looks embarrassed.
