Monarchs

I went to Farm Pond in Framingham during lunch after not stopping there in a long time.  I was delighted to find the pond bordered in some places with milkweed and joe pye weed and busy with monarchs!  I easily saw over a dozen, although they were not easy to count!   The highest I counted at any one time was 5.

This one is laying an egg.

    1. Guaranteed way to attract monarchs is with the milkweed (although it may not be as pretty). That is the ONLY food for the caterpillar and the only plant on which monarchs will lay their eggs. They also love the flower for nectaring. But....Joe Pye Weed will work for nectaring, too. I have some Joe Pye Weed in my yard and don't get nearly the quantity of monarchs that were here at Farm Pond. I've gotta believe it's the milkweed.
