That is the ONLY food for the caterpillar and the only plant on which monarchs will lay their eggs. They also love the flower for nectaring. But....Joe Pye Weed will work for nectaring, too. I have some Joe Pye Weed in my yard and don't get nearly the quantity of monarchs that were here at Farm Pond.
