Eastern Bluebird

Once in a while, I am at the right place at the right time.  And when I am, and I also have my camera near, it makes me so happy. . . especially if it's a bluebird.  I love Eastern Bluebirds!!!!

This hook is on the right side of my deck and the bird's bright blue wings showed up a lot better over there.

Same bird, different hook.  Left side of deck.

Yup, he saw me.

  1. What great pictures. I am sure you are very pleased. I have never realised how closely your Bluebird resembles our Robin, Erithacus rubecula. I wonder how closely they are related?

    1. Thanks, Nick! They do look similar, but and from what I could see on line, they used to be in the same family (Thrush), but European Robins were re-classified as Chats. I guess they are no longer related! I wonder if that reclassification was as a result of DNA work....they're finding some of the assumptions made about relationships do not pan out once DNA is analyzed. Your bird is pretty, too, although I favor the bluebird!
