Pileated Woodpecker Nest Update

I stopped by the Pileated Woodpecker nest tonight in hopes of getting a look at the babies.  This is the first woodpecker nesting hole I have ever known about, and it is fun to do regular checks on it and find out what's changed.

It's not the greatest photo, but I like it because the parent is there and at least one baby is showing in the opening!

Here's a short video, too.

  1. I saw one of these in Sanford, FL. I think it may be the largest woodpecker.

    1. Hi Maria, the Ivory-Billed Woodpecker is larger, if you believe that it still exists. It was declared extinct for years. I just finished reading The Grail Bird, by Tim Gallagher, and I believe!
