I stopped by the Pileated Woodpecker nest tonight in hopes of getting a look at the babies. This is the first woodpecker nesting hole I have ever known about, and it is fun to do regular checks on it and find out what's changed.
It's not the greatest photo, but I like it because the parent is there and at least one baby is showing in the opening!

I saw one of these in Sanford, FL. I think it may be the largest woodpecker.
ReplyDeleteHi Maria, the Ivory-Billed Woodpecker is larger, if you believe that it still exists. It was declared extinct for years. I just finished reading The Grail Bird, by Tim Gallagher, and I believe!
