MBC's Field Trip to Arlington's Great Meadows

This was Mass Butterfly Club's 2nd field trip of the 2016 season but my first.  It started out cool but turned out to be an excellent day for butterflying!

Arlington's Great Meadows (Lexington, MA):

Brown Thrasher

Henry's Elfin

Spring Azure

Juvenal's Duskywing

After our time in Lexington, the group split up with some going home, some going to Fort Pond Brook in Acton and others going to Horn Pond in Woburn.  I went with the Acton group since I had planned to go to the Acton Arboretum following the walk anyway.

Fort Pond Brook (Acton, MA):

Henry's Elfin

 Spring Azures, mating

Eastern Pine Elfin

possible Frosted Elfin??

Henry's Elfin

again, but hanging upside down

Large Bee Fly

The path we took to return to our cars was my favorite kind, a narrow opening between two rows of trees.

Last stop -- Acton Arboretum (Acton, MA):

I saw a couple of Spring Azures and Cabbage Whites, but the "wild"flowers were the real stars.

Celandine Poppy
