Butterflies at BHCL

I had to get back to Breakneck Hill and see what had changed since my time away!  I took a nice long walk in the sunshine, mid 70s.  Great Spangled Fritillaries were very abundant as was blooming milkweed.  Silver-Spotted Skippers were also new, as were Banded Hairstreaks.  I did not see any Monarchs on this outing.  It was nice to be back at my favorite local hiking spot (even after the beauty of Alaska)!

Multicolored Asian Lady Beetle

Check out those eyes!

Indigo Bunting
(Yes, they're still here!)

Silver-Spotted Skipper

Banded Hairstreak

The tattered Mourning Cloak lives on!

 More Banded Hairstreaks

Halloween Pennant

 Carolina Nightshade
(a new bloom in the back meadow but non-native)

  1. Lovely butterflies. The Spangled Fritillary and Banded Hairstreak are particularly nice.

    1. The Frits are spectacular butterflies! Would like to see some varieties other than Great Spangled!
