Monarch (female) nectaring on Coneflower
This monarch really makes me happy. The coneflower is one of maybe five blossoms that are left after the deer chewed its way through my butterfly garden (newly planted last year). I'm happy that this butterfly still found something worth flying in for! The dark background is because the "deep" woods are immediately behind my garden, and it's very shady and dark back there! (Ha ha. It is woods, but they are not deep by any stretch of the imagination!) Makes a nice background to the colorful subject matter, though! It also makes a good hiding spot for deer moving through a residential neighborhood.
Silver-spotted Skipper nectaring on Liatris
There's a nice little garden in the corner of Collella's parking lot, where I stopped to pick up sandwiches, and this Silver-spotted Skipper was taking advantage of their beautiful flowers to have his lunch.
