The Dark-Eyed Junco is also known as a snowbird. They are not around in the summer months, but they do spend winters with us, which is probably where they got their nickname. They are a harbinger of winter weather. When I was growing up, we called it a Slate-Colored Junco. Why the names changed is a mystery to me, but some bird names have changed over the years.

Now, a Northern Flicker is not known as a snowbird, but today it qualified as one. Just saying. Nice winter storm here today. She even posed front and back for me!
